Our organization works towards helping female colleagues in achieving their goals. With this year's sponsorship, together with Medacta, we support three great surgeons and their projects.
"The research project at the Foot & Ankle Research and Innovation Lab (FARIL) in Boston, affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, investigates the impact of hindfoot alignment on ankle stability during fractures. Our initial cadaveric study found that varus hindfoot alignment provides greater stability compared to valgus alignment. To further explore and validate these findings, we plan to conduct a follow-up cadaveric study using weightbearing CT imaging. This research aims to improve our understanding of ankle biomechanics and guide clinical decision-making in the treatment of ankle fractures."
"As a pediatric orthopedic surgeon specialized in hip preservation, I am honored to pursue a one-year research fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York under the mentorship of Professor Ernest Sink. This fellowship represents a unique opportunity to enhance my expertise in pediatric hip preservation, focusing on developmental dysplasia of the hip and other hip pathologies, while contributing to the advancement of treatment protocols in this specialized field.
Moving to New York with my husband, who will also be completing a fellowship in neurosurgery, and our two young daughters, aged 3 and 6, adds an invaluable dimension to this experience. It allows us to grow as a family while both advancing our careers. This opportunity will not only deepen my clinical and academic skills but also inspire a balanced approach to both professional development and family life. Upon my return to Switzerland, the knowledge gained will directly benefit my patients and support my goal of obtaining the academic title of Privat Docent at CHUV."
"My research project at Stanford University focuses on identifying early markers of knee osteoarthritis progression using advanced imaging techniques such as MRI UTE-T2 mapping and 3D statistical shape modeling (SSM). The project investigates structural and biological changes in knee cartilage and meniscus following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) to identify risk factors for pre-osteoarthritis. This approach aims to identify modifiable risk factors, such as biomechanical overload and joint injury, promoting a shift from treating advanced stages to enabling early diagnosis and the development of personalized interventions to reduce disability and improve outcomes."
